A Timely TF2 & CS:GO Source Code Leak?

Within the last 24 hours the entire 2017 source code for Team Fortress 2, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was leaked. This leak is timed pretty well with the release of the Valorant Beta, one of CS:GO’s main competitors. Along with Riot Games’ Vanguard Anti-Cheat fiasco.

What was once a vibrant FPS community, TF2 is possibly now a risky piece of software to start on your computer. The source code was from the late 2017 update Jungle Inferno. But since TF2 was nearly 10 years old at that point, and there have been no major updates since Jungle Inferno, the code base hasn’t changed much. What this means is this 2017 source code could be able to run on live TF2 servers with minor changes right now. There have been many PSAs and advisory posts to not play TF2 as playing on a community server could put your computer at risk.
